Salary Range: $111,468.90 to $129,545.15 per annum + super (subject to skills and experience) + Super+ Fully Private Use Vehicle + Civil Liability Allowance

Environment and Resilience
The Environment & Resilience Business Unit manages complex environmental and engineering programs and projects to achieve quality outcomes for the residents and the environment of the Northern Beaches. The Business Unit delivers the strategic and operational management of: 

  • Bushland and biodiversity protection and restoration including threatened species and pest species management and the control of bush fire risk
  • Catchment, waterway and coastal management including ecological, risk and restoration programs
  • Strategic environmental systems & programs, climate change adaptation/resilience and corporate sustainability
  • Environmental education, volunteering and engagement
  • Development Engineering including subdivision works, development approvals, and certification of development works
  • Stormwater asset maintenance, renewals and design and construction of new assets
  • Floodplain risk planning and management

Our opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager-Development Engineering & Certification, the Senior Development Engineer position supports the Development Engineering & Certification team in the Development Applications and Engineering Applications assessment.
The key focus areas of this role include: 
•    Development Assessment referrals relating to engineering matters (drainage, access, geotechnical, overland flow etc) in accordance with Council’s policies/guidelines and best practice.
•    Assess and issue subdivision works certificates and subdivision certificates complying with legislative requirements, Council’s policies/guidelines and best practice.
•    Road Act 1993 application assessment and approvals. Undertake inspections of construction works relating to Roads Act 1993 approvals providing directions as necessary.
•    Management, assessment, inspection and approval of on-site stormwater detention systems constructed by applicants including compliance certification and authorisation of all relevant legal documents.
•    Security deposit assessment including determining quantum and assessing refunds.
•    Preparation of expert evidence/reports related to engineering matters and presentation of evidence in the Land and Environment Court.
•    Attendance and or provision of written advice for DA pre lodgement meetings.
•    Develop and assist in the implementation of processes to enhance the effective and efficient management of the Development Engineering team.

 

About you:

What you will bring to our team:
•    An appropriate tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering that is eligible for accreditation with Engineers Australia or the Association of Professional Engineers Australia (note that current accreditation is not required).
•    Current Class C (minimum) Driver’s Licence.
•    Valid White Card (General Construction Induction Card).
•    Demonstrated experience/skills in Development Engineering relevant to Local Government.
•    Knowledge of Development Control Plans and proven understanding and ability to apply relevant legislation regulations/standards in urban development/construction.
•    Demonstrated ability to actively contribute to a high-performance team. 
•    Demonstrated analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
•    High-level communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with developers, consultants and regulatory authorities.
•    Working experience with NSW Government Planning Portal.
